The summer holidays in England have drawn to an end and pupils will soon be returning back to school for the autumn term and the start of a new academic year. If you are reading this in a different country, the length of the school summer break may be much longer or much shorter than in England. However long your childโ€™s summer break has been, getting back into the routines of school takes preparation and support.

Your child will have experienced weeks of leisure activities and experiences while they have been on holiday, and it can be challenging for them to return to regular bedtime and wake up routines if these have been relaxed over the summer break. A good time to re-establish these routines is throughout the final week of the summer break, giving body-clocks time to adjust to new bedtimes and new get up times.ย ย It is also a good time to gently re-introduce some learning times and practices, such as short sessions on Good2Learn, time for reading, revising multiplication tables, or other quiet activities which require focus.

Many children will be returning to a new class teacher; their class group may have altered; or they may be entering a new phase of education with different exam pressures approaching. Talking to your children about the new school year, can help to reduce any anxiety they may be feeling about any of these changes. Help them to see the new academic year as an opportunity for new and exciting challenges that they are well prepared for because of all their hard work in previous years, and that you and their teachers will be there to support them along the way.

Everyone at Good2Learn hopes that every returning student will embrace every moment of the new academic year with curiosity and excitement, and we send them our best wishes as they begin this new and exciting ‘back to school’ chapter of their education. We canโ€™t wait to hear about the amazing things they will achieve with your help and support.
